In earlier times treated as pest and trapped in Germany the common hamster is now near extinction. In 1993 the species classification went from “pest” to “protected”. Modern agricultural landscape and land consumption makes it difficult to survive for the small rodent. They only can be found in the wild in some spots in Germany. Here they became resident and dug their holes in a couple’s garden.
